Costa Rica Paradise Adventure has designed special tour for special people over 50’s, who want to take an adventure vacation in Costa Rica.

Our trip features Costa Rica’s natural wonders, experienced through an active program of hikes, river safaris and hot springs.  See the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve from the vantage of the Sky Walk, where you might spot a resplendent quetzal as you hike along jungle trails and over suspension bridges.

At La Fortuna, watch lava flows from Arenal Volcano, as they snake down the mountainside and visit nearby Tabacón Hot Spring (Baldi Hot Springs) for a satisfying bath in various thermal pools.  At La Fortuna Waterfall, swim in the crystal clear waters surrounding by a  tropical paradise. The highlight for many is the boat journey through the extensive, wildlife-rich canal system of Tortuguero National Park.  We conclude our tour back in San José.

The adventure vacation package includes an all time English speaking guide (groups) who will show you the natural jewels of Costa Rica and exhilarating activities that are offered, under the most effective safety conditions. You will enjoy your vacation without a worry.

Day 1: Arrival to San José.  Overnight at San José Downtown (D)

You will be met by a Costa Rica Paradise Adventure Representative upon your arrival to Juan Santamaria International Airport and transferred to the hotel located near the centre of San José. Our representative will discuss our upcoming adventure with you just before dinner.

Day 2: Visit to Poás Volcano and La Paz Waterfall Gardens. Overnight at Arenal, la Fortuna (BLD)

Just after breakfast, the first destination is the mighty Poás Volcano, the largest volcano crater in Costa Rica (1 km in diameter). Then we travel to La Paz Waterfall Garden, which is known to have the biggest butterfly farm in Central America, as well as an orchid garden, hummingbird garden and look points for 5 amazing waterfalls. There we will have a delicious buffet lunch and will have time to relax while enjoying the view.  The trails are very well kept, which makes hiking truly a nice experience.

After your visit to the amazing crater of Poás Volcano, and the beautiful waterfalls of La Paz Waterfall Garden, we will transfer to La Fortuna, Arenal. There you will have time to relax at Tabacon Hot Springs and Spa, where dinner will also be served. Tabacon Hot Springs has many different natural pools with different temperatures. La Fortuna is a small town located in the Alajuela province, home of the most active volcano of Costa Rica, Arenal Volcano. From your hotel you and with a little luck, you will be able to enjoy the fury of the volcano and the hot red rocks coming out of the main crater.

Day 3: Visit to Arenal Volcano National Park and to La FortunaWaterfall.  Overnight at Arenal Area (BLD)

The area of La Fortuna is rich in natural wonders; an active volcano, noumerous wartefalls including the beautiful very famous La Fortuna Waterfall, great forest, caves, and various adventure options, make this place a great touristic destiny.  After breakfast we will visit the Arenal Volcano National Park, where a guide will walk you exploring the old lava rivers.  After lunch, we will visit the beautiful waterfall of La Fortuna. It is a 400-step descent hike to the natural pool made at the bottom of the waterfall, where you will have a chance to swim in its crystal clear waters. 

Day 4: Visit to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Overnight at Monteverde Area (BLD)

After breakfast, we will transfer to Monteverde area, through a Jeep Boat Jeep Tour, where you will enjoy a soft boat drive over the manmade Arenal Lake.  Once in Monteverde we will have a nice lunch, before going to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The main town, Santa Elena, was founded in the 1950s by a group of Quakers who migrated to the area from Alabama in the southern U.S.A. The Reserve is world famous for the huge variety of life forms it supports and for the elaborate system of trails that wind though the Reserve. The Reserve is divided into six life zones, hosting a total of 2,500 species of plants, 100 species of mammals, 120 species of reptiles and amphibians, 490 species of butterflies, including the Blue Morpho and about 400 species of birds, including the Quetzal. 

Day 5: Visit to Monteverde´s Butterfly Farm and Sky Walk. Overnight at Monteverde Area (BLD)

We visit the Butterfly Farm in the morning, just after breakfast. After lunch, we visit the Sky Walk Selvatura, the outstanding structures that take you into new heights!  The Selvatura Park’s Treetop Walkways is a 1.5 mile (Approximately 3 kilometers) trails that crosses through the cloud forest canopy, along this trail will be able to walk across 8 different suspension bridges that range between 150 to 510 feet (50 to 170 meters) in length and 46 to 180 feet (12 to 60 meters) in altitude. Selvatura Park treetop walkways make the most solid, comfortable and strongest of the bridge systems in Costa Rica.

Day 6: Transfer San José and Visit Sarchi Town.  Overnight at San José Area (BLD)

After breakfast we will transfer to San José, and we will stop at the Sarchi Town where you can find all kind of souvenirs. After we will travel to the hotel where you will have time to relax and enjoy the city.

Day 7: Travel to Tortuguero.  Overnight at Tortuguero Area (BLD)

Get ready for one of the most amazing nature experiences in the so called Amazon of Costa Rica, Tortuguero. Today the trip begins early with a pleasant drive that takes us through various local villages and on to our embarkation point, Caño Blanco.  There you will get into a boat and start a wonderfull trip through Tortuguero canals, where you will enjoy nature from a different point of view.  The boat ride will take approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. The afternoon is leisure to experience the local culture and habitat, to visit some of the wonderful natural attractions in the area, walk along the trails or just relax in a comfortable hammock.  If you are up to a night walk through the beach for the experience of your life, watching giant sea turtle lay their eggs, get ready (this is an optional tour available during turtle nesting season – from July to October).
 

Day 8: Visit the Tortuguero Canals.  Overnight at Tortuguero Area (BLD)

During the day, we have an opportunity to explore the great Tortuguero National Park.  The first boat trip is very early in the morning to be able to see different species of birds. Just after the tour you will enjoy a great breakfast and have a little relaxing time before going into another tour through different canals of the area.

Day 9: Transfer to San José, Overnight in San Jose (BL)

After breakfast, we leave Tortuguero and head back to San José on the river-boat to the port of embarkation Caño Blanco. We arrive at our hotel in San José downtown. Today, dinner is not included for you to have a chance to experience the restaurant of your selection. 

Day 10: Transfer to the Juan Santamaria International Airport and departure from San Jose (B)

Shuttle coordinate by Costa Rica Paradise Adventure will transfer you to Juan Santamaria International Airport in time for our departure flights.

1. How big are the groups?
Each group is limited to 12 participants.  Small group are an important ingredient in adventure travel. They allow for more personalized service throughout the tour. However, we can alsocustomized your trip if you cannot make it into the trip dates available.

2. What is included in the tour price?
All accommodations throughout; all meals starting with dinner on day 1 and finishing with breakfast on departure day; (except dinner of day 9), transportation throughout and airport transfers (first and last day), every tour book in the itinerary, travel insurance,  and services of an English speaking naturalist guide or guide/driver. If you need a guide with any other language, please ask us in your request.

3. How do we travel during the tour?
All local transportation is included by land, and it is included in price of the trip (there are also boat trips).  We travel using private transportation.

4. What are our accommodations like?
We always stay in high quality accommodations – both hotels and lodges where rooms have a private bath or shower. Tortuguero Lodge is a very ecotouristic lodge, which does not have air conditioning, but it has fans.

5. What about the weather?
The Costa Rican climate can vary over short distances because of the rugged mountain chain that affects the wind, rain and temperature, resulting in a series of microclimates where altitude is a key to change. To generalize, there is a rainy season or “winter”, with short heavy downpours usually around mid-day that lasts from May-November.  During the dry season, temperatures will range from a low of 50-55ºF at Monteverde, to a high of 77-86ºF at sea level.  San Josè is a comfortable 72ºF year-round.

6. When is payment due?
A non-refundable deposit of the 20% of the total amount of the tour is due at time of booking and will reserve your place on the tour. Payment of the full land cost is due 40 days before departure.  Cancellation charges are applicable and are outlined in the “Terms and Conditions”.

7.  What meals are included?
All meals during the itinerary are included, starting with dinner on day 1 and finishing with breakfast on departure day.(except dinner of Day 9).  We eat a variety of local foods prepare in a wide range of settings, in many cases; we simply order a number of dishes and share, allowing you to sample new foods and decide what you enjoy best.

10.  Can you arrange my flights?
Costa Rica Paradise Adventure does not book flights directly, however, we work with an American campany that gives us the best latin America airplane rates..
